Ukraine War
Maryinka, eastern Ukraine, Nov. 2017.
Vera Grigorievna, 63.
Inspecting what was the living area of her property, the other part is a hairdressing salon from where she used to run a successful business.
In Aug. 2014 a grad rocket hit the house. Fortunately, her son had got her out when the area started to be attacked by Russia-led forces.
Just prior to the war starting she had borrowed money from the bank and did extensive renovation work to the property but she is now left with no-where permanent to live and remains in debt to the bank.
She must keep a vigilant eye on her home as several valuable items have been looted since the shelling.
A long-time resident of Maryinka she loves her city and is desperate to have the ‘good life’ back that she once had.
