War in Donbas
Since 2014 Ukraine has defended its borders against aggression from Russian-led forces in the eastern Donbas region.
The contact line is 457 kms long, the same distance as London to Paris.
The seven-year conflict has affected 4.4 million people and displaced 1.6 million. An estimated 13,500 people have been killed and approximately 30,000 injured.
Over 3,300 of the dead were civilians.
