Le Guilvinec has the largest fish auction in the Bigouden region of Brittany.
Statistics from 2010 indicate that approximately 15,000 tonnes of fish is landed annually with a total value around 56 million euro, although landings have decreased steadily since 2004.
It normally runs from Monday to Friday, holding two, sometimes three auctions a day.
However, the violent storms in early 2014 prevented boats from going to sea; consequently there were no fish landed, and so no income for the many who rely on the industry.
