Young boy washing after taking refuge in a makeshift IDP camp in Dili.
This makeshift camp was set up in the back yard of local pro-independence politician Manuel Carrascalao's house and provided refuge for approximately 120 IDP's from the Maubara district, who had left their homes after being violently intimidated by the pro-Indonesian militias.
Two weeks after this picture was taken, pro-Indonesian Eurico Guterres, leader of the feared 'Aitarak' militia, urged his supporters to break into the camp, which resulted in the murder of at least 11 of the IDP's, including including Manuelito, the 17-year-old son of Manuel Carrascalao.
