Michael releasing the unwanted by-catch on the beam trawler 'Dini', (0.62) while fishing for grey shrimp off the coast of Oostende, Belgium.
Once the catch is hauled aboard the shrimps are separated out. Belgian shrimp is a delicacy and is cooked in salted water onboard, very soon after it has been sorted from the by-catch.
Saleable by-catch such as plaice and sole is retained, while the rest is thrown back into the sea.
The boat leaves each day at 4.30pm and returns the next morning around 7.30am, six days a week.
